International Men’s Day
International Men’s Day aims to create a positive conversation around men and masculinity, break down unhealthy stereotypes and raise awareness of charities that support men and boys in need. It is also important in security to know that vulnerable men also need to be safeguarded, and men’s issues need to be taken seriously.
Here are some important facts from ukmensday.org.uk of the issues men and boys face:
– Did you know that men make up three in every four suicides in the UK? This tends to be because men are encouraged not to not be emotional or are told to “man up” instead of sharing their issues.
– It is widely stigmatised that men can’t be the victims and survivors of sexual crimes, domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based crime, and stalking which is untrue. It was reported that last year in the UK, one in three victims of domestic abuse were male and 143,000 men were estimated to have been victims of sexual assault in 2017/18.
– Men are nearly three times more likely than women to become alcohol dependent.
If you are needing support for any of these issues, see below for charities that can help, and share this post to spread awareness and hopefully help someone who may be going through these issues to speak up and get help.
