This week Security Scotland’s Training Division completed its first ever Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety Management Course (Safety Officer) at our Glasgow head office. Industry experts Chris Baker and David Brannan opened the five-day course, setting the scene for the qualification and giving a detailed overview of the modules. Security Scotland’s management team were joined by several new Safety Officers from around the country as well as a couple of independent safety consultants. Due to an increase in street robbery, the Metropolitan Police Service in London are working to prevent crime in hotspot areas. While this initiative is taking place in London the principles and changes can be applied to areas across the UK. As security operatives are often working in these areas, they are best placed to educate the public and help prevent street robbery. Having received training to work in the industry, licensed operatives will be aware of many of the steps that can be taken to prevent street robbery. Still, as a reminder, here are recommendations that our team will continue to make to the public: Stay aware of your surroundings and pay attention to who’s around you. Keep valuables such as mobile phones, watches and cash out of sight. Plan your route home. Look confident You are less likely to be targeted if you look confident. Move with purpose and try to be aware of

As the UK prepares to kick off the summer months filled with festivals, concerts, sporting events and holidays; specialist and local officers will be working together, along with a number of key partners to undertake a range of activities throughout Scotland, aimed at providing the public with useful information to help deter terrorism and keep them safe in the event of a terrorist incident. Launched for the first time last year in response to the terror attacks in both London and Manchester, ‘Summer Security’ has already delivered advice, best practice and training to thousands of festival workers, staff and security guards across the UK and highlighted advice to holidaymakers both home and abroad, all aimed at Keeping People Safe.
