Security Scotland Supports Black History Month

Black History Month, otherwise known as African American History Month, launches in the UK every October, as an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans. The theme for 2022 is: "Time for Change: Action Not Words. To get to a better tomorrow, we can’t just focus on the past. The past is in the past. We can acknowledge and learn from it, but to improve the future, we need action, not words. This year’s Black History Month in October is more important than ever. It’s not just a month to celebrate the continued achievements and contributions of Black people to the UK and around the world. It’s also a time for continued action to tackle racism, reclaim Black history, and ensure Black history is represented and celebrated all year round." This summer has been Security Scotland Ltd Events Division’s busiest summer to date.

Over the last few months our events team have worked at some of the best and most popular outdoor events Scotland has to offer. These events have included the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Kiltwalk , Piping Inverness, Edinburgh International Film Festival and the 6 major golf events hosted in Scotland. Some of these events were our first year delivering our safety and security services, with a combined total of approximately 1 million attendees. The success of our various deployments was due to our commitment to provide the agreed service delivery plan together with the correct staffing levels and our continued commitment to treat our people well in terms of staff welfare.  Our teams braved the ever-pleasant Scottish weather with smiles all round as we worked to provide a safe and entertaining experience for all attendees - we would like to thank each and every one of our people for their hard work and effort. Please see below for a message from #ProtectUK

"As the country mourns the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it is likely that smaller local events will take place to screen the funeral and commemorate her life. ProtectUK shares some guidance for event organisers. Throughout the mourning period, it is expected that communities will gather to watch the funeral or hold remembrance services. Even at smaller local public events, it is important to remain vigilant. The current threat level in the UK continues to be SUBSTANTIAL, meaning an attack is likely. " For more information on how to remain vigilant, visit: https://www.protectuk.police.uk/

Having trained first aiders in your workplace isn’t just a legal requirement

'Having trained first aiders in your workplace isn’t just a legal requirement. It’s a vital and necessary skillset that can help colleagues and customers in the event of accident or sudden illness and can literally save lives. The Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) has been written for learners wishing to become first aiders in their place of work, and covers the vital skills necessary to provide prompt and effective first aid. The qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment. It will also ensure your first-aiders are approved to deliver first aid for 3 years' To get booked onto any First Aid course with Security Scotland, email training@securityscotland.com now to reserve your space.

Since its inception in 2016 we have supplied the Security Services at Eilean Dorcha Festival (EDF)

Since its inception in 2016 we have supplied the Security Services at Eilean Dorcha Festival (EDF) and it has fast become an event that is very close to our hearts. Director, Mark Thorburn stated: “I have personally worked at EDF every year on the island from the beautiful journey up to the ferry over. Some of our staff enjoy it that much that they take time away from their full-time job to go and work at the festival. The festival has become known as the ‘friendly festival’ and we have not had one incident since it started. The islanders are so friendly and welcome us back each year and I can’t wait until next year to see them all again for the weekend… the only problem is, its all over to quickly!!” EDF recently released a statement regarding their annual festival: "Eilean Dorcha Festival, the weekend music festival held in a spectacular

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

World Suicide Prevention Day aims to start the conversation about suicide and to show that recovery is possible. While there has been a reduction in the number of people completing suicide over the last ten years, the numbers are still worryingly high.  International Association for Suicide Prevention and @take5tosavelives encourages everyone to take 5 minutes out of their day and complete five action items: 1. Learn the warning signs 2. Do your part 3. Practise self-care 4. Reach out 5. Spread the word World Suicide Prevention day is hosted by #IASP - for more information, please visit: https://www.iasp.info/ https://www.take5tosavelives.org/
